Brewers Darling Blanks Detroit
Saturday, August 27th, 1988: Ron Darling effectively shut down the Tigers today, blanking them 3-0 on 1 hit, ringing up 7 strikeouts and allowing 2 walks. The Brewers pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.

"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," Darling said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."

The Tigers skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."

Up to now Darling has compiled an ERA of 3.64 with a 10-10 mark over 28 starts. He has 121 strikeouts in 200.1 innings and has held opponents to a .257 batting average.
Collins May Leave White Sox
Saturday, August 27th, 1988: White Sox Dave Collins could be wearing a new uniform soon. Word has it that Chicago would like to swing a deal for the 35-year-old left fielder. A spokesperson for the team declined to comment.
Gooden Whitewashes Giants
Friday, August 26th, 1988: Dwight Gooden scattered 2 hits in going the distance in the New York 4-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Shea Stadium. The 23-year-old Gooden whiffed 7 and allowed 3 walks in the game.

This season Gooden has compiled a 14-7 mark with a 2.66 ERA.
