Sharperson Goes 5-5 Against Memphis
Friday, August 19th, 1988: Today the Chicks downed the Rays 6-4, but Mike Sharperson did his best to avoid that outcome as he lashed hits all over Icecats Ballpark in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," the Saint Paul second baseman said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."

Asked if he had a hitting philosophy, Sharperson said, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of good pitches to hit today and I didn't miss any of them."

M. Sharperson doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

So far on the season Sharperson is hitting .291 with 2 home runs, 37 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has 103 hits and played in 109 games.
Dark Siders Chapman Named SL2's #1 Player
Monday, August 15th, 1988: At the age of 32, Kelvin Chapman might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Aurora second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .500 batting average. For his efforts Chapman collected the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 13 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs last week in 7 games.

So far this year, Chapman is batting .217 with 3 home runs and 16 RBIs.
Hill Red-Hot, SL1 Player of the Week
Monday, August 15th, 1988: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Sub League 1, but last week Glenallen Hill of the Orlando River Hounds reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Hill rocked opposing pitching for a .407 average (11-27), 2 home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award.

For the season Hill is currently batting .294 with 15 home runs and 38 RBIs. In 58 games he has reached base at a .371 rate and scored 40 runs to date.
